LONDONDERRY — A wet forecast couldn’t dampen the festive atmosphere inside Londonderry High School Wednesday night, where 160 or so local seniors gathered to dine among friends.
Wednesday evening’s senior citizen barbecue marked the start of this year’s Londonderry Old Home Day festivities.

With reports of West Nile Virus-positive mosquitoes confirmed in several nearby towns, town officials aren’t taking any chances, especially with Old Home Day festivities beginning later this week, interim Town Manager Bill Hart said.
Hart said the potentially deadly virus was found last week in adult mosquitoes trapped near the Londonderry town limits.
Shortly after 5 p.m. on Monday, workers from Dragon Mosquito Control in Brentwood began spraying the fields at Londonderry Town Common and the outdoor areas surrounding Matthew Thornton, the middle school and the high school.
There was no shortage of beautiful babies at the baby contest held Saturday at 9 AM at the LHS cafeteria.
Runners were out in force for the Lundgren 5K road race on Saturday morning.

The winner had a huge lead over the rest of the field.

The seniors enjoyed a fantastic barbecue at the Lions Hall under sunny skies.
Special guest Governor John Lynch visited the seniors.

Next stop: Londonderry Common for a concert by the renowned Windham Swing Band.
Darlene sang the hits “Blue Skies” and “Georgia on My Mind” to an appreciative crowd of all ages.
The Windham Swing Band has become a fixture of the opening night of the Old Home Day Celebration. Their concert on the common Wed night was packed.
The saxophonists kept busy with several different players performing beautifully on solos.
Trumpeter Rob Kerry played the solo in “Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy of Company C.”
