Mosquitos not invited to Londonderry Old Home Day

LONDONDERRY — The spraying of Londonderry’s public outdoor venues to control the mosquito population began on Monday evening.

With reports of West Nile Virus-positive mosquitoes confirmed in several nearby towns, town officials aren’t taking any chances, especially with Old Home Day festivities beginning later this week, interim Town Manager Bill Hart said.

Hart said the potentially deadly virus was found last week in adult mosquitoes trapped near the Londonderry town limits.

Shortly after 5 p.m. on Monday, workers from Dragon Mosquito Control in Brentwood began spraying the fields at Londonderry Town Common and the outdoor areas surrounding Matthew Thornton, the middle school and the high school.
