The dedication of the bandstand took place at 2:30 pm on August 22, 1976, during the Londonderry’s Bicentennial Old Home Day Celebration.
“Between the conception and the climax was a story of frustration, joy, despair, pride, thankfulness, and dedication not easily summed up. Suffice it to say that with donations of materials, money, and labor, the project that was expected to be completed by Old Home Day in 1974 was finally dedicated in 1976. When funds ran low someone came up with a donation, when materials ran out someone came forth with more. A small but dedicated force of laborers put it all together.”(1)
Thanks to our citizens and Brian Farmer for his active effort to restore a part of Londonderry’s Old Home Day history with the completion of the Bandstand overhaul. There is no doubt that the same story of frustration, joy and pride were active thoughts in the revitalization of this town structure.
